With a leap that seemed to defy gravity and summon the spirit of the Sahara winds, Nassima Belekhdar of Morocco etched her name into the golden pages of African athletics history, claiming the triple jump gold medal in the U-20 women’s category at the 3rd Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18/U-20 Championships.

The MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, a cauldron of roaring crowds and fluttering national flags, bore witness to Belekhdar’s moment of magic—an elegant fusion of speed, strength, and spatial mastery. Her winning jump wasn’t just a physical act; it was a poetic flight that captured the imagination of the continent.

The championships, which began on July 16 and continue through July 20, 2025, have drawn athletes from over 43 African nations, converging on Nigerian soil to chase dreams and carve legacies. Abeokuta pulsing with  youthful fire—every sprint, throw, and jump echoing the heartbeat of a continent brimming with untapped potential.

Amidst this ocean of talent, Belekhdar rose like a phoenix, owning the sandpit with fierce precision and unshakable poise. Her performance stunned spectators and competitors alike, setting a standard that may take years to match. The Morrocan prodigy leapt beyond mere meters—she leapt into African memory.

“This gold is a symbol of everything I’ve worked for,” Nassima said, beaming with pride and emotion. “It’s for my country, my coaches, and every young African girl with a dream.”
