Date: January 23, 2024
Ondo State, Nigeria -
In an effort to address the numerous challenges faced by farmers in Ondo State, Hon. Chief Musa, a prominent political figure and advocate for agricultural development, has proposed several innovative solutions on the issues faced by farmers in the region include insufficient access to funding, lack of farmers representation in the government, no direct single digit loan and lack of proper training.
The former Ondo State House of Assembly Member at the 8th Assembly and DG of DPA Support Group, made this known at a program on Adaba 88.9fm IRETI OTUN . The program which is proudly sponsored by one the foremost governorship aspirant Otunba Dr.Paul Akintelure is aim at discussing some sailent issues on governance and economic prospects of Ondo State.
Hon. Chief Musa at the program began by acknowledging the importance of agriculture to the state's economy. "Agriculture is the backbone of Ondo State's economy, and its success is crucial to the state's overall progress," he said. The astute political leader emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to address the challenges faced by the farming community.
One of the solutions proposed by Hon. Chief Musa is the availability of single digit loan to farmers. According to him, when farmers are able to access single digit loan as it's obtainable in some developed countries, it will relief them of the burden of huge INTREST rates offered by commercial banks thereby making productivity feasible.
Another area that Hon. Musa stressed upon, is the lack of representation of farmers in the government. He noted that unless round peg is put in a round hole, no meaning progress can be recorded in the Agricultural sector. The former MHA emphasised the need for the government to appoint farmers to head the Agric Ministry and Agencies. In the same vein, Hon. Musa pointed out that Aids to farmers should come at the appropriate time. "farmers should be able to get the needed Aids before the planting season, not when the harvest is almost over. Most at times when these Aids come out of season and the farmers use it to upset debt incurred during the planting season."he submitted.
Hon. Chief Musa further stressed the importance of investing in infrastructures like good road networks, rural electrification, modern farming equipment and technology to improve efficiency and sustainability.
He proposed the availability of tractors for farmers to clear lands and installation of modern storage facilities to preserve their farm products from getting rotten.
Additionally, Hon. Chief Musa highlighted the need for proper training and education for farmers. He called for the establishment of agricultural training centers where farmers can learn modern farming techniques, crop management, and other essential skills.
By equipping farmers with the knowledge they need, they can adopt best practices and improve the quality of their produce.
"By addressing these issues, we can empower our farmers and ensure the long-term success of Ondo State's agricultural sector," said Hon. Chief Musa.
The political leader expressed optimism that the proposed solutions would not only improve the lives of farmers but also contribute to the overall economic growth of the state.
In conclusion, the proposed solutions by Hon. Chief Musa offer a promising path towards addressing the challenges faced by farmers in Ondo State.
By focusing on financial support, involvement of farmers in agric critical decision making process, access to modern farming equipments, and education, the agricultural sector will be revitalized, thus benefiting both the farmers and the state's economy as a whole.
