Egbe Atunluse, a vibrant socio-political group in Ondo State, Nigeria, under the leadership of a seasoned politician, Otunba Akinsola Akinbobola held its state executive meeting at the Alagbaka office of the group on Sunday, 17th, December, 2023. The gathering brought together leaders from the various local governments in the state, all united by their shared vision of fostering unity, progress, and development for Ondo state.
In his opening remarks, the group's Director General, Amb. Sikiru Adetona emphasized the importance of collaboration, dialogue, setting of common goal in achieving success. He urged members to remain dedicated to the cause and to always put the interests of the people first.
During the meeting, various proposals were discussed, including plans for a get-together luncheon of the group, to take place on the 28th Dec; 2023, including other capacity-building initiatives.
The attendees also shared updates on ongoing political occurrences in the state. Evocating on the political imbroglio that engulfed the state lately, Egbe Atunluse Initiatives, lamented the unusual lacuna in governance created by the impasse.
The group's convener, Otunba Akin Akinbobola noted that some elements used the absence of Mr. Governor to generate crisis that will aid them to commit unfathomable atrocities within governance leading to poor account for state funds, to the forging of the governor's signature as expressed by a commissioner inorder to siphon funds and perpetrate evil to the detriment of Ondo state people."
Because Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has been absent for months and there was no clear captain to steer the ship of state, some unscrupulous elements fanned the embers of disunity, cause confusion and unrest in the political space of Ondo state so they could have a field day to plunder the commonwealth of the state" Akinbobola stated. He praised and leaders of Atunluse Initiatives for playing prominent role in ensuring that the lawlessness in governance of Ondo state is brought to a halt. He asked leaders to get ready in the event that there may be need to engage in another struggle as long as it's in the interest of the masses.
Furthermore, Egbe Atunluse berated the political actors during the saga noting that where two elephants fight the grass suffer, according to the group leader, " in the complex web of politics, the powerful often engage in battles for supremacy, resource control, and influence. These confrontations, reminiscent of the titanic struggles between political elephants, can have far-reaching consequences that extend beyond the arena of the elite and spread destructively into the space of the downtrodden. Most times, it is often those at the grassroots and the marginalized who bear the brunt" Without mincing words, Akinbobola expressly said the group will fight again and again against injustice, wickedness, cheating and flagrant abuse of the oppressed people.
During the political brouhaha, Egbe Atunluse's concerns were obvious, it did its best to slow the tide through it's many activities.
The group lauded the intervention of the President of the federal republic Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for quickly saving the situation as it was about degenerating into civil strife and also a constitutional crisis.
The group wondered, "What if the President isn't the leader of the party that had governor in Ondo state or if he were to be from another political party, what would have happened in the state ?" hence the group commended the President for his timely intervention and appreciated him and other political, religious, ethnic and community leaders within and outside Ondo state, using Baba Reuben Fasoranti as a point of contact.
Meanwhile, Egbe Atunluse uses the opportunity of this medium to appreciate and commend the Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN for transmitting power to his Deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Acting Capacity until he comes back from medical leave. The group also pray for his quick recovery.
In this same vein, the group congratulated the Acting Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa on his assumption of office in the new role. The group admonished Aiyedatiwa to understand clearly that he is carrying a heavy burden, the people expect much from him. (to whom much is given, much is expected). Hon. Lucky Aiyedatuwa is reminded to note clearly that it was the people who stood against his impeachment and also clamored for his elevation to the Acting Governor status." he must not fail the people on this assignment" the group submitted that he is expected to take actions that will be people oriented...failure which he should know that the people will come for his jugular.
As the meeting drew to a close, the executive committee members reaffirmed their commitment to working towards a prosperous and harmonious Ondo State. They expressed their gratitude to all those who have supported Egbe Atunluse thus far and urged the people of the region to continue collaborating and working together for greater good.
With the executive meeting successfully concluded, Egbe Atunluse is poised to continue its mission of promoting unity, progress, and development within Ondo State. As the group moves forward, it remains committed to fostering a sense of collective responsibility and action among the people, ensuring that the grass suffers less in the governmental system.
